Default Microsoft Details Plans for Windows Mobile 6.5, Mobile Marketplace at CTIA 2009

As Engadget puts it, the Windows Mobile news coming out of this week's CTIA Wireless 2009 trade show can be summed up in two words: "pretty" and "support" (for the upcoming Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system).

Want a phone where "pretty" is more than case-deep? Designer Isaac Mizrahi, Design Museum London, and the Council of Fashion Designers are teaming up with Redmond to create fashionable wallpapers for the 6.5 version of Windows Mobile.

On the support side, Microsoft announced support*from over 25 companies for its Windows Mobile Marketplace (Word 2003 DOC link). Windows Mobile Marketplace will feature apps certified for your windows Mobile device, a refund within 24 hours if you're not satisfied, and other benefits.

To protect the contents of your mobile phone, Microsoft also showed off its My Phone backup and sync service, currently in beta.

What if you're currently using a Windows Mobile 6.1 device? Engadget also reports that if your device has at least 128MB of RAM and a 400MHz processor, it has the necessary hardware muscle to run Windows Mobile 6.5. However, it's up to the device vendors to decide if upgrades will be available.

For more information (including videos), see*Microsoft PressPass's CTIA 2009 website and the official CTIA Wireless 2009 conference website.
